We are a church of about 60 members, with congregations of around 80 people, from toddlers to over 90s.
Our pastor is Rev. Darrell Holmes, who started his ministry here in February 2008. Besides our pastor, our leadership team is made up of a secretary, a treasurer and five deacons. Whatever we call ourselves in the leadership team, we work together to provide leadership and guidance to the church. We believe strongly that all members and friends have gifts, both spiritual and natural, to be used in the work of the church, outreach, and building each other up. Our church directory lists the particular jobs and ministries in the church and who is responsible for them. We try to be welcoming people, giving everybody who comes the opportunity to find friendship, and to find ways to come to faith in Jesus as Saviour and Lord, or to deepen an existing faith in Him.
Until the fire in March 2009, we had a suite of buildings, dating originally from 1832, but which was extensively upgraded to a high standard. However, the church is people, not buildings.
As described on our home page, we are members of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, and we subscribe to its Declaration of Principle. We are also members of the Evangelical Alliance, and subscribe to its Statement of Faith.

We have close relations with the local Anglican church, St. Giles, engaging in regular joint activities and services with them.
We are also in close fellowship with our “cluster” of neighbouring Baptist churches in Chard, Lyme Regis, Seaton, Feniton and Honiton - known as the “CHALKS” group, and we are members of Churches Together in Axminster.
We have an open membership policy - that is, membership is open (in the words of our constitution) “to all who profess repentance towards God and faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, who have confessed their faith in one God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - and whose lives bear evidence of their Christian profession.”
We welcome all who love the Lord Jesus to join with us at the communion services which we celebrate twice a month.
We believe that the church exists not just for the benefit of its members, but for those outside. We are committed to reaching out into our community with the good news, through various projects and activities, and social action. We seek to be relevant to our immediate community, and to be a relevant church in a rural area. The Arthur Rank Centre’s web site has more details on the churches’ ministry in rural areas, and helping churches to become more rural-friendly.
We are also committed to supporting Christian mission in the wider world. We support several missionary and relief organisations including amongst others, BMS World Mission, The Leprosy Mission, European Christian Mission, TEAR Fund, Christian Aid, London City Mission, Spurgeon’s Childcare, Love Russia, Tools with a Mission, Operation Christmas Child, and Yatima Orphanage. in Tanzania
